Set License Limits

In most cases, administrators rely on their License Server to manage license usage.  In some cases, administrators may also want to define the maximum number of licenses in Apporto.  They may do so by manually entering the relevant information in the Licenses screen.

The most common use case is to set a Concurrent User Limit for a streamed app or desktop in order to limit access or reserve licenses via license scheduling.

This short guide will show you how to:

View License Information

Using your preferred web browser, navigate to the URL for your Apporto system, for example, “mycompany.apporto.com”, and log in to the system using your Admin credentials.

Click the Licenses  icon in the Navigation panel.

The ‘Licenses’ screen displays.

The Licenses screen shows a list of all apps and desktops defined for your Apporto instance.  The following information is provided for each:

  • APP NAME:  The name of the application.

  • APP VENDOR:  The vendor or creator of the application.

  • TYPE:  The Apporto application type (STREAMED, WEB, or DOWNLOAD) or the operating system (Windows or OSX) for NATIVE type applications.

  • DOWNLOADS BY USER:  The number of unique users that have downloaded the application (only relevant for DOWNLOAD apps, which are uncommon).

  • NAMED USER LIMIT:  Lets you enter the total number of purchased user licenses for the application (only relevant for NATIVE apps, which are uncommon).

  • CONCURRENT USER LIMIT:  For streamed apps, lets you enter the number of concurrent users for the application.  This is useful for limiting the number of users who may access a particular application or desktop in Apporto.  This field is required if you want to schedule licenses via the Calendar.

  • NOTIFICATION TRIGGER (%):  Lets you set a percentage value (of the total number of licenses) that will trigger an email notification when licenses may soon run out.

Set a Concurrent User Limit

You may set a concurrent user limit for streamed applications (the most common type of application or desktop).  Simply cursor into the Concurrent User Limit text box and enter the maximum number of concurrent users.

The concurrent user limit is required in order to reserve licenses for groups of users via the License Scheduling feature in the Calendar.

Hit enter or click Update

A success message will display at the top of the screen.

Set a Notification Trigger

If you want to receive an email notification when license usage reaches a particular threshold, you can set a NOTIFICATION TRIGGER. Cursor into the box and type a value (a percentage of licenses for the application).

Hit enter or click Update

A success message will display at the top of the screen.
