Accessing Apporto NextGen
Access to Apporto NextGen requires an active user account and valid credentials.
Use the information in this guide to learn how to:
Log in to Apporto NextGen
Depending on how Apporto is implemented for your organization, you may log in using one of the following methods:
If you are not sure which method is used by your organization, please contact your Apporto administrator or email [email protected].
Single sign-on (SSO) authentication
Single sign-on (SSO) is the most commonly used authentication method for Apporto. If this is in use by your organization, follow the steps below.
- Using a supported Web browser, navigate to the Web address provided by your administrator.
The link should resemble yourorganization.apporto.com, where yourorganization is the name of your company. - A redirect screen displays.
- Click log in to access your organization’s Login page.
- Enter your single sign-on (SSO) username and password. This should match your login information for other systems within your organization.
- Upon successful login, you will be directed to the My Desktops screen.
Apporto Login page
If your organization utilizes usernames and passwords for authentication, you will log in using a basic login form. To create your password, you must complete the registration process.
Complete registration
You should have received a welcome email like the one shown below.
Follow the steps below to complete your account registration.
- Click on the click here to create your password link in the email. This link may only be used once and will expire in 24 hours.
- A browser window should open with the Reset password screen.
- Enter your new password and click reset password to submit.
- Once your new password is created, you may log in.
If you do not see an email in your inbox, please check your spam/junk folder. The email subject typically contains “Welcome to the Apporto Virtual Lab” and is sent from [email protected]. If you still don’t see an email, contact your Apporto administrator or email [email protected].
Log in with your username and password
After completing registration, you may log in to your account by entering your username and password. Unless you have been otherwise instructed, your username will be the email address used during account registration.
Follow the steps below to log in to your account.
- Using a supported Web browser, navigate to the Web address provided by your administrator.
The link should resemble yourorganization.apporto.com, where yourorganization is the name of your company.
- Enter your username.
- Click continue to proceed. The form will change and prompt you for your password.
- Enter your password.
- Click continue to sign in.
- Upon successful login, you will be directed to the My Desktops screen.
Multi-factor authentication (MFA)
If your administrator has enabled multi-factor authentication (MFA), you will be prompted to connect to a mobile authenticator app.
Follow the steps below to set up MFA for your account.
- Using a supported Web browser, navigate to the Web address provided by your administrator.
The link should resemble yourorganization.apporto.com, where yourorganization is the name of your company.
- Enter your username (or email address).
- Click continue to proceed. The form will change and prompt you for your password to verify the account.
- Enter your password.
- Click continue to proceed. The form will change and walk you through MFA setup.
- Download one of the following authenticator apps from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Click continue to proceed.
- Scan the displayed QR code with the authenticator app.
- For Duo Mobile:
- Tap on set up account.
- Tap on use a QR code, and scan the QR code on the screen with the app.
Alternatively, you can tap on use activation code and manually enter the alphanumeric code that shows under the QR image. - Follow the onscreen instructions from Duo to save the connection.
- Click continue to proceed.
- For Google Authenticator:
- Tap on add a code.
- Tap on scan a QR code, and scan the QR code on the screen with the app.
Alternatively, you can tap on enter a setup key and manually enter the alphanumeric code that shows under the QR image. - Follow the onscreen instructions from Google Authenticator to save the connection.
- Click continue to proceed.
- For Microsoft Authenticator:
- Tap on the + icon.
- Tap on work or school account.
- Tap on scan a QR code, and scan the QR code on the screen with the app.
Alternatively, you can tap on enter code manually and enter the alphanumeric code that shows under the QR image. - Follow the onscreen instructions from Microsoft Authenticator to save the connection.
- Click continue to proceed.
- For Duo Mobile:
- Enter the authenticator’s six-digit code into the verification code field.
- Click continue to sign in.
- Upon successful login, you will be directed to the My Desktops screen.
Reset your MFA connection
If you wish to refresh your MFA connection, follow the instructions below.
- Click on the avatar menu at the top of the screen.
- Click profile. The Edit user screen will appear.
- Click reset authenticator to force a reset.
- If the reset is successful, a green success message will display.
- If the reset is requested more than once before going back through the code entry steps, a red warning message will display.
- If the reset is requested more than once before going back through the code entry steps, a red warning message will display.
- When you next attempt a login, return to your authenticator app to get a fresh verification code.
View your desktops
After you have logged in, you can view the My Desktops screen. All desktops that are available to you will be listed.
Please note that administrators and standard users will have different options in their navigation menu. For standard users, the My Desktops screen will be the main screen of the system.
There are three types of desktops: streamed, Web, and downloadable.
- Streamed applications and desktops are by far the most common. They are installed on a server in the cloud and “streamed” to you via a browser.
- Web applications run in a browser. Apporto simply provides a link to launch these applications.
- Downloadable apps are ones that you can download and install on your local computer. These apps are not managed by Apporto. We simply enable you to download them. This type of app is not common.
For each desktop, you have the following options:
- Copy shortcuts – Click on this link to copy the URL. You may then paste it into a browser and save it as a bookmark.
- Action options – These are dependent on desktop type. Your desktops may not include all options listed below.
- Launch – This option triggers the desktop to load in a browser.
- Download – Click on this button to download a local application. Open the file after download, and follow the onscreen instructions to install the application.
Launch a desktop application
If the desktop action option shows as launch with no additional dropdown menu, click on the button to launch the desktop.
Administrators will see an additional dropdown menu with the following options:
- Start servers – Click on this button to start the server that hosts the virtual desktop. See the article on managing servers for additional details.
- Schedule servers – Click on this button to schedule events for the server that hosts the virtual desktop. See the article on managing calendar events for more details.
Learn about Apporto
To see what version of Apporto you are running, follow the steps below.
- Click on the help icon at the top of the screen.
- Click about Apporto. The Apporto Version pop-up appears.
- You can view the current build numbers of the Apporto API and app. Click close or the to close the pop-up.
Log out of Apporto NextGen
To exit the system, follow the steps below.
- Click on the avatar menu at the top of the screen.
- Click logout. The system will log you out and return you to the Login screen.
