Configuring persistent virtual machine (VM) settings
Apporto supports the use of servers and virtual machines (VMs) for hosting desktops. If a customer wants to have their VMs assigned to specific users, then persistent VMs will be implemented. Administrators can configure the way that persistent VMs work in the system by accessing the “persistent VMs” section of the Setup screen.
Use the information in this guide to learn how to:
- View persistent VM settings
- Define cloud-persistent VM credentials
- Enable on-premises persistent VM options
For more information, see the article on managing servers and VMs.
View persistent VM settings
To view the current settings for persistent VMs, follow the steps below.
- Click setup or the icon in the navigation panel to view the Setup screen.
- Click on the “persistent VMs” tab in the lower part of the page. The system will display the current settings for both cloud-based and on-premises persistent VMs.
Define cloud-persistent VM credentials
For customers using VMs in the cloud, Apporto needs access credentials. When a customer’s Apporto account is being set up, the following fields are provided for entering credentials.
Field | Datatype | Required? | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Username | String | Yes | |
Password | String | Yes |
To configure the cloud VM credentials, follow the steps below.
- Under the subheading for cloud-persistent VMs, enter the username and password values.
- Click save changes to submit. The values will now display as read-only.
Enable on-premises persistent VM options
For customers using on-premises VMs, options are available for setup scripting and value importing.
Import server pool and user VM assignments
Check the “enable server pool and user VM assignment import” box and click save changes to turn on the import features.
Once the option is enabled, two new features will appear on the “single-session” tab of the Servers screen. Administrators can click import server pools or import user VM assignments to trigger the appropriate wizard. More information on these functions can be found in the article on managing servers and VMs.
Clone on-premises VMs
On-premises VM administrators may find it helpful to clone existing Hypervisor configurations. Two options are available–downloading a customized PowerShell script or downloading a standard script that can be modified offline before use.
To enable these features, check the “enable on-prem cloning configuration” box and click save changes.
Once the option is enabled, the “on-prem cloning config” tab will be available on the Servers screen. You can find more information about this option in the article on managing servers and VMs.
